At the age of 7, Amy-Jill Levine was accused by a school friend of having killed Jesus – because she’s Jewish. Out of this episode grew a lifelong fascination with Jesus, his life and times.

Now a Professor of New Testament Studies at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, she has been teaching Christian students in the Bible Belt about Jesus for many years.

In conversation with Vicky Beeching, she reflects on why Jesus the Jew is so often misunderstood – and why despite her intense interest in him, she’s never felt tempted to embrace him as the Messiah.
